William Howcroft

Senior Occupational Therapist | Medico-legal Specialist

William is an AHPRA Registered Occupational Therapist who first became involved in the NDIS in 2015 when he began employment as a support worker.

Following the completion of a Bachelor of Health Sciences of a Master of Occupational Therapy, William commenced work as a Rehabilitation Consultant for the ADF. In this capacity, his experience includes a range of diagnoses including physical disability, neurological and spinal cord injuries, amputees, traumatic and acquired brain injury, and psychosocial diagnoses. With a caseload of this nature, clients often present with increasing complexity, multiple co-morbities and functional limitations across multiple areas of their life. A key skill he developed in this role was the ability to advocate for the serving members under his care by providing comprehensive written reports that justify their need for care.

William has pursued a career as a sole-trading Occupational Therapist who provides community-based services at the request of local allied health agencies. The role includes completing ADL and functional capacity assessments within the client’s home and provide recommendations to ensure the client reaches their optimal level of function. William uses a strengths-based approach to support a client to identify their goals, and progress towards the achievement and long term sustainability of these goals. This process involves equipment prescription and home modification applications using external funding agencies, including the preparation of funding applications.

 William has also provided services under DVA funding scheme to recommend support worker and ADL assistance services. He has developed the ability to write reports to a high standard that meet both the needs of the client and the insurer, and a deep understanding of the principles and philosophy of an insurance-based mode.

 For the past 2 years, William has also worked in the medico-legal industry, providing independent expert Occupational Therapy opinion for The Courts.

 William is regarded by his referrers and his colleagues as an empathetic clinician, who provides comprehensive reports.
