Melissa is a skilled Occupational Therapist with 17 years’ experience in both the public and private sectors, providing Occupational Therapy services and needs assessments for clients living in metropolitan as well as rural and remote areas, in Australia, the United Kingdom and Wales.
Melissa has worked with clients with a range of medical conditions, disabilities and injuries. She has vast experience as a community-based OT, providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to clients in various settings including mental health, spinal cord injury, acquired brain injury, aged care, orthopaedic, neurological, general surgical and occupational rehabilitation.
As a clinical OT she has conducted initial needs assessments, activities of daily living assessments, recommendations for equipment and environmental modifications, including the design and preparation of plans for major adaptations to the home environment, and the provision of training in adaptive techniques and the safe use of specialist equipment.
Melissa has worked as a State Manager for a National Rehabilitation Provider providing education, coaching and supervision to a large multi-disciplinary team of allied health professionals. Her clinical experience has enabled her to conduct thorough medico-legal assessments, providing advice and recommendations in the management of clients who have sustained an illness, injury and/or disability; and including the provision of equipment and home modifications to facilitate independent living.
Over the past 8 years, Melissa has provided occupational therapy medico-legal consultancy services and has prepared hundreds of Activities of Daily Living Assessments and Loss of Dependency reports within New South Wales for the purpose of providing independent expert Occupational Therapy opinion for the benefit of the court in personal injury matters. She also specialises in medico-legal assessment for NDIS matters before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. Melissa is a SIRA appointed Authorised Health Practitioner.
